Mohandas Gandhi’s Systems: A Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist Approach to Political Activism
presented by Doug Dumbrill

Campbell County Public Library welcomes Doug Dumbrill, local attorney and adjunct Gillette College professor, on Tuesday, February 11 at 6pm. His presentation will introduce the audience to the activism applied by Mohands K. Gandhi.

There are nation building religions and personal salvation religions. Their aims and tenets are very different. If you search the teachings of Jesus on Earth, you will find virtually no reference of government of political thought. "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's..." is one possible exception.

Perhaps the only attempt ever made to join and employ a great deal of Jesus' doctrine in actual practical politics waited until the twentieth century and a remarkable Hindu thinker Mohands K. Gandhi.

During this presentation, Dumbrill will explore the broad social, experiential, and educational background that led Gandhi to his unique system of political activism. We will explore the meaning of "satyagraha" and "ahimsa" and meet remarkable influences on Gandhi: Rabindranath Tagore, Leo Tolstoy, C.F. Andrews, and others.
