Exploring the Power of Brevity, An Interactive Flash Fiction Workshop

Campbell County Public Library welcomes writers of all experience levels to join recognized experts Heidi DeStefano and Reatha Thomas Oakley for an interactive, and fun, workshop on the fastest growing prose genre, flash fiction. Attendees will explore what makes fiction flash, tips on word counts and making words count, and will leave with a variety of resources and an opening draft of their own story.

Heidi’s and Reatha’s work has received dozens of awards in all literary genres. Heidi’s middle-grade fiction Chickie Jurin’s Zamboozie Stew is available on Amazon. Reatha’s short pieces and poems have appeared in numerous publications; one of her plays will soon be available from Senior Theater Publications. Both are active members of Wyoming Writers and WyoPoets and are part of Prairie Pens, Gillette's local writing group.

Flash fiction has been described as a bonsai tree of form, carefully pruned…a tiny marvel, pushing creative inventiveness through its use of constraints. Join us for this workshop and learn to prune your writing for precision and beauty.
